RISD UPDATE: SCHOOL RE-OPENING PLANS
7/15/2020
Dear Raymondville
ISD Community,
There
are many questions about what is going on with schools opening, closing, or
going entirely online. Here is what you should know:
- We are
working closely with our County Judge and City Mayor to develop a plan to
safely resume instruction
- We are
working with legal counsel to ensure that we follow all state guidelines
related to the required minutes and the school calendar
- We are also
collaborating with the other three Willacy County area school districts to
make decisions that are in the best interest of our community.
Our
School Board is actively engaged in ensuring that the final approved plan is
not only in the best interest of our students, staff, and community but also in
ensuring that we follow all State laws. Our County Judge and City Mayor
continue to support and collaborate with school boards and
administrators.
Some
questions I have received include asking why others have already made
decisions. The answer to this is that every school district is different. Some
have start dates as early as August 3rd and need to put these things in place
now, and some have other needs based on their school minutes or calendar. Raymondville ISD is still 40 days away from
our August 24th start date, and we are using this time to plan for
the safest way to resume instruction.
Thank
you all for your patience and understanding during this time. We are learning
about new requirements and new options daily.
We
anticipate having a finalized decision and plan the week of July 20th
(next week).
If
we can answer any questions or provide you with any additional information,
please do not hesitate to call us at 956-689-8175.
Thank
you and God Bless,
Stetson Roane
Superintendent of
Schools
