Raymondville Bearkat Band Shines at State Solo and Ensemble

Raymondville, TX - May 29, 2024 - The Raymondville Bearkat Band demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication at the State Solo and Ensemble competition, setting a new school record with 34 medals. This remarkable accomplishment marks the second highest medal count among all class 4A schools in the state and the highest among all Rio Grande Valley bands.

Band Director Ben Keltner expressed immense pride in his students, stating, "This accomplishment reflects the hard work, dedication, and talent of our students. They have put in countless hours of practice, and their efforts have truly paid off. We couldn't be more proud of the Bearkat Band."

The Bearkat Band’s medal count includes:

  • Div. 1 Gold, Flute solo: Oscar Garcia
  • Div. 1 Gold, Alto Sax solo: John Zuniga
  • Div. 1 Gold, Tuba solo: Elijah Cortez
  • Div. 1 Gold, Marimba solo: Leon Guzman
  • Div. 2 Silver, Clarinet solo: Lauren Salinas
  • Div. 1 Clarinet Quartet, A: Lauren Salinas, Emily Kafka, Faith Tijerina, Mia Rodriguez
  • Div. 1 Clarinet Quartet, B: Diandra Castillo, Meagan Kafka, Nathan Bella, Jesus Rodriguez
  • Div. 1 Trumpet Trio: Evelyn Salazar, Steven Martinez, Raina Reyes
  • Div. 1 Trombone Trio: Josiah Ramirez, Ethan Maciel, Fabian Reyes

Superintendent Stetson Roane also praised the students and the band program: "The Bearkat Band's success at the State Solo and Ensemble competition is a reflection of the high standards of excellence we uphold in our district.
